We left Judy’s home at just north of
Nanango and dropped her car off
at friends, Leann and Keith, around 11.00am.
I drove the van slowly towards Kingaroy
and around the outskirts to the Burnett Highway
near Crawford, listening to every groan as we got up speed.
I finally relaxed as it made 80 kph as before that I was flat out
getting it to over 65 kph.
The next test was after Memerambi
as we climbed what is known to me as Wooroolin Hill. A
traveller passed, as he became too impatient to follow.
In Wooroolin we stopped to check
all was well and had a soft drink. The dogs hopped out and explored
not knowing this would be how life was going to be for some weeks.

The inside of our transport,
1987 Daihatsu Van.
We turned off the Burnett
Highway just south of Tingoora
and headed west to Durong
and had a cuppa/smoko further north just before the Boondooma Homestead.
2.15 pm
Our first "cuppa/smoko" stop - off the road just before Boondooma
Homestead on the way between Durong and Mundubbera.
Next stop was Mundubbera where
we refuelled and rejoined the Burnett Highway,
then Eidsvold where we turned
west towards the Leichhardt Highway.
As the air was becoming cool around sundown, we arrived at
Tolderodden Rest Area
on the Burnett River
- # Q 440 in the Camps 3 Australia Wide
camping guide and setup camp. We had the company of three other
travellers, 2 Winnebago RV’s and 1 caravan.
The next few hours were spent starting to get used to what we were
to call “home” for the next few weeks.
