Herb told of the days when -

Walter Frederick SCHLOSS

- Uncle Walter "copped' a traffic fine for an offence on his way to B risbane Markets in a horse and cart
carrying a load of bananas.

During his younger years Walter lived at Hatton Vale with the family on a f arm at Lockrose. He also worked on a Banana Plantation at Dayboro. I n his later years he was a non-denominational preacher, preaching in bo th Queensland and Western Australia.
In 1960 he married widow, Joyce Cain who had three children, Ruth (10), A lan (8) and Coral (6). They moved to Victoria where they lived on a d airy farm, milking cows, tending pigs at Acheron, and also managing a s mall Post Office.
In 1964, the now larger family moved south to buy a 54 acre dairy farm a t Loch. Here they milked approx. 52 cows. The farm was sold in 1986 a nd Walter and Joyce moved to Berwick in early 1987.
Walter and Joyce's children were born at Alexandra (nesr Acheron), and w ent to the local primary school after they had moved to Loch. They fi nished secondary schooling at nearby Korumburra.
